New and emerging markets represent a tremendous growth opportunity for the agri-food industry. As part of the Turkey Farmers of Ontario’s (TFO) global strategy, accessing new and emerging markets to expand our market share is one of our top priorities. It has been identified that the growing Chinese, Korean and Japanese market sectors in Ontario do not consume turkey. TFO wanted to formally investigate and explore this emerging market then put a strategic plan in place identifying the best way to approach and reach this target market.
The Accessing a New and Emerging Market for Turkey project provided information to understand the potential size, characteristics, food and market trends of the ethnic market, data about turkey consumption and ways to increase awareness and consumption within this target market. The results of the Capacity Building assessments allowed for informed decision making and to assist TFO to develop strategies to approach this emerging market, to expand market share and foster economic growth for the Ontario Turkey Stakeholders.
